Community-Based Monitoring CampsThe Community-Based Monitoring Camp is located on the mainland, across from the Diavik mine site. For the summer of 2008, Diavik took over all organisational aspects of the Community-Based Monitoring camp. One camp was held – the Water Quality Monitoring Workshop. As in past years, participants learned the basic of water, benthic invertebrate and sediment sampling. EMAB members and staff helped on logistical aspects: choosing community participants and briefing them, organizing transportation and accommodation in Yellowknife, and working with the consultants that led the camp. EMAB member Florence Catholique attended the camp, representing the Board. During the 2004, 2005, and 2006 field seasons, EMAB organized the camps, with Diavik funding. For the 2006 field season, EMAB organized a Water Quality Monitoring Workshop. Participants collected water sample, benthic invertebrate samples, sediment samples, and zooplankton samples. We introduced a new three-day camp this year: Dust Monitoring. We also continued with the Fish Palatability and Texture Study. In total about 40 Elders, adults and youth representing the communities participated in these camps. In 2005, we organized a Water Quality Monitoring Workshop, a Caribou Monitoring Workshop, and the fourth Fish Palatability and Texture Study. The camp is located near the mine site on the mainland. Participants from all five Aboriginal Parties live at the camp for three days during each camp. 2005 Reports:Water Quality Monitoring Workshop Fish Palatability and Texture Study Caribou Monitoring Workshop Report Camp Movie: |
